Volunteerism and Community Oriented Policing are concepts embraced by the Sheriff’s Administration and considered essential to the operations of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. The department staffs a Volunteer Coordinator who oversees all of the services of the units that are functionally active. Within the Sheriff’s Office, volunteer opportunities are available to anyone, from youth to seniors.

While volunteers are not compensated for their services, they are required to adhere to all of the policies, ordinances, and laws that pertain to any regular member of the Sheriff’s Office. Volunteers engaged in law enforcement activities are required to be certified by the State of Nevada, Peace Officers Training and Standards (POST), and all of our Volunteer Units are available for dispatch during any community disaster.
